Not sure if you are eligible?

Tell us about your relationship and current visa situation. We will assess your options.

You are married or in a de facto relationship

Your partner is an Australian citizen, permanent resident or eligible New Zealand citizen

You have a genuine and continuing relationship

For de facto couples, you have usually lived together or at least 12 months (with some exceptions)

How Do You Prove Your Relationship?

The Department of Home Affairs looks at the real nature of your relationship. Evidence is usually group into four key areas:

Financial

  • Joint bank accounts

  • Shared bills & expenses

  • Joint lease or mortgages

  • Insurance policies

  • Shared assets or major purchases

Household

  • Proof of living together

  • Household bills

  • Mail

  • Shared household responsibilities

  • Joint case of children

Social

  • Photos

  • Travel history

  • Support from family and friends

  • Evidence of shared social activities

Commitment

  • Relationship statements

  • Regular communication records

  • Future plans

  • Wills or estate planning

  • Long term commitment

Not Every Couple Will Have Every Document and You Don't Need to Have Every Document.

You may not have a joint bank account, joint lease or many photos. That does not automatically mean your application is weak. We will help you identify what evidence you already have, what gaps need explanation and how to present a strong and consistent case.

Every Relationship Looks Different.

You can still apply even if:

  • You don't have a joint bank account

  • You have been living apart / in a long distance relationship

  • Your visa is expiring soon

  • Your relationship is less than 12 months

  • You are on a temporary visa (i.e. student visa or working holiday visa)

  • You are not married

These circumstances do not automatically mean you cannot apply.

We'll look at your full situation and help you build the strongest possible application.
